Marsa Cricket Club  Malta - Tour Info

We thank you for contacting us and we will try to help you as much as we can with information regarding your Cricket tour to Malta.

The cricket pitch is inside the Marsa Sports Club complex. Cricket has been played on the existing site for over a century. A cricket match is played every Saturday at the club with touring teams offered both weekend and weekday matches

The most popular months for teams to tour Malta are in March, April, May, September and October. Tours are sometimes booked 12 months in advance by our repeating visiting teams so we have to confirm with you,  BEFORE any final bookings/flight arrangements are made.

Fixtures
Touring teams usually arrive mid week so that they get two games on Saturday & Sunday, then another game during the week. On many occasions we have visiting teams overlapping their stay so they can play each other during the week, outside the local team schedule.

The starting times for each format are as follows: -

· 40 overs - 10.30am
· Twenty20 - 1pm

Matches will be 40 overs per innings unless negotiated beforehand. If you do require a different start time and format, please let us know beforehand.

Occasionally on Sundays, the Marsa Sports Club needs to make use of the cricket ground in the afternoon. Therefore, the game start times will be 9am.

If your requested dates coincide with one of these Sundays, you will be notified at the time of your initial enquiry

Umpiring
We can supply two ACU&S umpires for each game requested. Alternatively, we can supply one ACU&S umpire and the other supplied by the touring Team. Once fixtures have been confirmed, our head ACU&S umpire, Mr. Martin Llewelyn (
martinllewelyn@hotmail.com <mailto:martinllewelyn@hotmail.com> ), will contact you.

Match Fees and payment details
All teams wishing to be included on our fixtures list must pay directly into the Malta Cricket Associations (MCA) Bank Account a non refundable deposit of €100.00. Only after this has been paid, will the fixtures secretary include the name of the team on the fixtures list.

If a touring team has paid the deposit but wishes to defer their tour to a date that occurs within two months of the originally booked tour dates, then the deposit will not be lost
. However, only one deferral will be allowed.

The match fees for 2008 are as follows: -

Normal 40 over games
€18.00 (Eighteen Euros = approx £12.25) per player per game - a total of €198.00

All touring teams must pay directly into the MCA's bank account no later than 14 calendar days prior to the first tour date the full amount of their tour fees. In the event that these fees are not paid, the deposit shall be kept and the touring team advised that their tour has been cancelled. The Final payment shall be adjusted to take into account any deposit already paid.

This includes;
Club entrance fees and Match fees
Club facilities, Showers etc,
Water - for drinks breaks during the match
A light lunch between innings (a selection of sandwiches, pies, pasta and pizza)
· Please let us know if there are any special dietary needs
A team memento and a player of the match award

Important:
Umpires, scorer and 12th man (plus coaches or teachers regarding school/university teams) ONLY entitled to join in for the lunch supplement with the team and will be covered by the team match fees.

Cricket Pitch and Pavilion
Regarding our cricket pitch, it is an artificial wicket and all our cricketers here play with rubber pimpled sole shoes (RECOMMENDED) or normal sports shoes, that is for fielding and batting. NEVER any spikes or studs! Even shoes which take studs, but have no studs screwed in, are not very good either as that sort of 'bulge' where the thread is on the sole of the shoe is hard and can be slippery as we have found out through past experience. Again, rubber soled shoes are recommended and please pass this info round to the players as many times, unfortunately, players have had to borrow shoes from other players in order to bat!!

We have nets facilities for warm ups before matches. As shown in Ground Layout below.

In our pavilion, besides a changing room we also have men’s toilets and showers.

Travel
European countries passport holders will have no problem entering Malta, but if any of your players are traveling on any other passport from outside Europe you may have to check if they need special visas to enter.

Touring sides accommodation is usually found in the popular tourist area’s of either the Sliema / St. Julian’s Bay area which is 15 minutes drive from the cricket ground or the Bugibba / Qawra / St Paul’s Bay area and this is about 25 minutes away.

Should you wish for us to arrange your travel and accommodation, please let us know as we are associated with Globalair travel company that specializes in sports travel.
